The PATH Framework: How to Say Yes to the Right Things in Your Business

Business Owner Facebook Group

Have you ever felt like you’re running in circles? You’re busy all day, yet when you look back, you’re not sure if any of it really moved your business forward. Or maybe you’ve poured time and energy into a project, only to realize later it wasn’t aligned with where you actually want to go. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

That’s why we created the PATH framework. It’s a simple filter you can use to check whether your next “yes” is really worth your time and energy. PATH isn’t about hustling harder. It’s about making sure the effort you invest actually counts.

I keep this framework right on the front page of my daily planner, and I’ve seen firsthand how it brings clarity. Instead of asking, “Should I do this?” you can run it through your PATH and see if it truly deserves your attention. Here’s how it works.

P is for Purpose

The first checkpoint is purpose. Ask yourself: Does this align with my why? Purpose is the anchor. Without it, you risk chasing shiny objects or mimicking someone else’s strategy that doesn’t fit you. It might feel like progress in the short term, but long term it leaves you unfulfilled and frustrated.

When your actions flow from your purpose, they bring energy instead of draining it. That’s why I often encourage people to name a single word that sums up their current purpose. For me, it’s impact. For Kylene, it’s positive. For one of our community members, it was enjoyment. What’s yours?

If a decision doesn’t align with that word, it probably doesn’t belong on your calendar.

A is for Action-Oriented

Next, ask: Is this project action-oriented? Will it create real progress, or is it just spinning wheels? Action-oriented doesn’t mean doing more. It means choosing the steps that actually move you closer to results. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is say no, clear space, or simplify. Other times, it’s taking the first small step that nudges you out of your comfort zone.

Your comfort zone is where you recharge, but it can’t become a campsite. Think of it as a launch pad. Each intentional action stretches it wider and gives you new ground to stand on. A great way to test this checkpoint is to ask: What’s one small action I’ve taken recently that gave me momentum? Then repeat it.

T is for Tenacity

Not every worthwhile action will be easy. That’s where tenacity comes in. Ask yourself: Am I willing to dig in and stick with this when it gets uncomfortable? Tenacity is grit. It’s the willingness to keep showing up, to make adjustments, and to try again when something doesn’t click the first time. It’s also a great measuring stick. If something doesn’t matter enough for you to be tenacious about it, maybe it’s not worth doing at all.

Think back on your own journey. When has sticking with something paid off for you? Maybe it was finishing school, keeping a promise, or showing up for your business even when you felt stuck. That persistence builds confidence and momentum you can draw on in the future.

H is for Habit-Based

Finally, ask: Can this action become a habit, or is it just a one-off? One-off projects can be fun, but habits are what create sustainable progress. When an action becomes part of your rhythm, it no longer requires constant motivation, it simply becomes who you are. That’s where the real transformation happens.

Maybe it’s a morning journaling practice, a weekly check-in with your numbers, or choosing healthier meals. Small, repeated habits eventually stack up into huge results.

To make this checkpoint work, keep it believable. Don’t pile on five new habits at once. Choose one small, repeatable action that connects with something you already do. Let it become part of your daily flow, then build from there.

PATH: Your Measuring Stick for Success

Put it all together and you’ve got PATH—Purpose, Action, Tenacity, and Habits. It’s more than a way forward. It’s a measuring stick to help you decide what deserves your time and what doesn’t. Every time you say yes, you’re investing your most valuable resource: your energy. PATH helps you invest it wisely.

The beauty of PATH is that it gets even stronger when you know your strengths, values, and passions. That’s why we offer a free SVP session. In just one conversation, we help you see what truly drives you so you can evaluate choices with confidence and clarity.
