We all know the drill—set a goal, make a plan, and then… life happens. Your to-do list grows, distractions pop up, and suddenly those big dreams you wrote down are gathering dust on the shelf. Or worse yet, overwhelming you because you were planning for 12 months to accomplish it and there are only a few months left in the year. Then you either beat yourself up by creating a story that you will never be able to accomplish anything, or you give yourself grace and hope that you get it done next year. Either way, you stay in the same place, never reaching the goals you have for your business. But here’s the thing: setting a goal is only the first step. The real magic happens beyond all of that.
If this is you, you are not alone. The difference between a goal setter and a goal getter isn’t about talent, willpower, or luck. It’s about having a clear plan, building the right habits, and creating a system that works for you. That is the whole reason I’m hosting our annual Goal to Reality Webinar Series. This series will take your goal-setting game to the next level and help you turn those dreams into action. Let me break down a couple of the steps and then you can join us at the webinars to learn more.
The Power of Clarity and Action
For me, for years I would just set a goal and take action, but here’s where a lot of people get stuck: we don’t know exactly what that action should be. General goals like “I want to grow my business” or “I need to exercise more” are nice ideas, but they lack the clarity that’s needed to turn them into something real. Goal getters understand that clarity is key. Instead of “I want to grow my business,” a goal getter would say, “I will grow my business by 15% in the next quarter by reaching out to 10 new clients every week and launching a new product.” Now that’s specific, actionable, and measurable. Once you’ve broken your goal down into clear steps, it’s much easier to get started and stay motivated.
Breaking Down Your Goals with a Plan
Once you’ve got that clear goal, it’s time to create a plan. But not just any plan—a cue-based plan. We talked about this in last week’s blog, and again this is where the magic happens. Instead of saying, “I’ll work on my business when I have time,” a goal getter would say, “Every Monday at 10 a.m., I’ll spend one hour working on a marketing strategy.” By putting that time in your calendar and making it non-negotiable, you’re taking the guesswork out of your goal and building momentum.
In the Goal to Reality Webinar Series, we’ll dive deeper into creating these types of cue-based plans—plans that don’t just say, “I’ll do it when I have time,” but instead say, “This is exactly when and where I’ll take action.” You don’t have to know every step and the action will tell you the adjustments to make. However, it is crucial to build a system and take the day-to-day challenges out of the equation.
Accountability and Support Make All the Difference
For goal setters, like I was for years, it was easy to put things off when there was no one holding you accountable. That’s why having a community of people who are also working on their goals is so important. They keep you motivated, remind you why you started, and help you stay on track when life tries to derail you. There are lots of ways to do this, but one of the fastest and easiest is making a public declaration of specifically what your goal is and why you want to accomplish it.
In the Goal to Reality Webinar Series, we’re not just talking about goal setting or even creating action plans, or discussing roadblocks. We will also cover the accountability, and ways to create feedback to ensure you stay on track. The power of community and accountability is undeniable, and it’s what turns a simple goal into a real achievement.
